CRY8120 Series Acoustic Imaging Camera Update: See Further, Inspect Smarter

Industrial inspections often involve distant pipework, crowded equipment rooms, and background noise that makes weak signals difficult to isolate. The updated CRYSOUND CRY8120 Series extends the specified test distance to 240 meters and combines a wider camera view, automatic frequency selection, and remote control to make everyday inspections more practical.

Finding an acoustic anomaly is only part of the job. Maintenance teams also need to identify the equipment involved, review the evidence, and turn inspection findings into a clear maintenance record.

The latest updates address these steps together, helping teams move from locating a sound source to understanding and documenting the problem.

    Upgraded Acoustic Detection Performance

Elevated pipework and equipment across large industrial areas are not always easy to approach. A longer inspection range gives teams more flexibility when choosing where to begin a survey.

The upgraded CRY8120 Series increases the maximum specified test distance from 200 to 240 meters-an additional 40 meters, or a 20% increase in maximum range. This supports initial acoustic surveys of distant or difficult-to-access assets from more practical observation positions.

Actual detection distance depends on the sound source and site conditions. The maximum range does not mean every leak or partial discharge can be detected at 240 meters.

The series combines 200 MEMS microphones with a 2-100 kHz frequency range. Under the conditions specified in the updated datasheets, the minimum detectable leak rate is 0.0022 L/min at 10 meters and 5.6 bar, providing a concrete reference for its weak-leak detection capability.

Capture More Equipment in a 120° View

In switchgear rooms, machinery rooms, and pipe corridors, there may be little space to step back and frame the equipment being inspected. A narrow camera view can require repeated repositioning and leave important context outside the image.

The updated camera provides a 120° diagonal field of view, with 94° horizontal and 76° vertical coverage. This wider visual frame helps operators capture more equipment and its surroundings in one image.

For maintenance teams, that context matters. A sound-source marker is more useful when the image also shows which pipe connection, cabinet, or equipment assembly requires attention. The wider camera view supports clearer inspection records and helps colleagues relate an acoustic finding to the physical asset.

    Intelligent Automatic Frequency Control

Industrial background noise changes as equipment starts, stops, or operates under different loads. Repeatedly adjusting the inspection frequency can interrupt a routine survey and make the process more dependent on operator experience.

Intelligent automatic frequency selection analyzes the acoustic environment and selects a suitable inspection band. It helps reduce background-noise interference and the need for repeated manual adjustments, allowing operators to concentrate on locating and reviewing potential problems.

Experienced users retain access to FFT analysis, manual frequency adjustment, and frequency-band locking. Teams can use automatic selection for routine inspections and switch to more detailed control when a difficult signal needs closer examination.

Remote Viewing and Control From a PC or Phone

Some findings are easier to assess when several people can review the same live inspection view. In other situations, the camera needs to remain in position while the operator works from a more suitable location.

The updated series supports remote viewing and control from a PC or the Acoustic Link mobile app. Users can adjust parameters, switch interfaces, capture photos, and record video remotely.

This makes it easier to discuss a suspected fault while preserving the camera's inspection position. A technician can keep the target in view while colleagues examine the image and settings together, supporting a more collaborative review before the finding is documented.

Expanded Capabilities for Internal Valve Leak Detection and Thermal Imaging

The CRY8120 Series supports optional accessories for internal valve leak detection and thermal imaging, helping maintenance teams investigate faults that require additional evidence beyond the initial acoustic image.

For internal valve leak detection, users can choose between two optional sensors. The IA3104 Contact Ultrasound Sensor is designed for use in non-hazardous environments. The new IA3105 Ex Contact Ultrasound Sensor is expected to receive ATEX and IECEx certification from TÜV shortly, expanding the options for internal valve leak detection in Zone 2 gas and Zone 22 dust hazardous areas. Users can select the appropriate model based on their site classification and inspection requirements.

For thermal inspection, users can choose between two optional modules: the IA1301 Thermal Imaging Camera Module with 384 × 288 resolution, and the IA1302 Thermal Imaging Camera Module with 640 × 512 resolution. The higher-resolution option provides more thermal detail, allowing teams to select a configuration that matches their inspection requirements.

Both modules allow acoustic and temperature information to be captured simultaneously, helping teams assess abnormal heat patterns alongside acoustic findings. Thermal images and acoustic data can also be managed and analyzed together to support equipment condition assessment and reporting.

Keep Inspections Moving From Capture to Report

Useful inspection evidence needs to be clear both in the field and during later review. The series combines an 8-inch, 1920 × 1200 display, brightness of up to 600 nits, and 6× digital zoom to support on-site viewing.

The updated configuration weighs 1.5 kg. Each replaceable battery provides up to five hours of operation, with two batteries offering up to 10 hours of combined runtime for extended inspection routes.

Data management, offline analysis, editing, image labeling, and report generation support the next stage of the workflow. Teams can organize their findings and prepare documentation that helps maintenance colleagues understand what was observed and where further action is needed.

Choose the Right Model for Your Site

The series offers two models for different inspection environments:

    • CRY8124 Advanced Acoustic Imaging Camera: For gas leak detection, partial discharge analysis, and mechanical inspection in non-explosive atmospheres.

    • CRY8125 Advanced Ex Acoustic Imaging Camera: TÜV-certified under ATEX and IECEx for applicable Zone 2 gas and Zone 22 dust atmospheres, subject to its Ex marking and instructions.

Together, the updates give maintenance teams greater flexibility in where they inspect, how they review weak signals, and how they share the results. Existing owners can contact CRYSOUND to confirm which software functions and hardware updates apply to their current devices.
